Green Future Project
Problem
Over the past decades more than 90% of Madagascar’s native forests have been destroyed, displacing multiple animal species. Entire mangrove estuaries have also been lost, leaving the bare earth to wash into the sea, and upsetting the delicate balance of the marine ecosystem.
Our support
Green Future Project is working closely with our reforestation partner to replenish the mangrove population along the west coast estuaries. We are committed to planting hundreds of thousands of mangrove trees at the Mahabana Estuary, situated 65 kilometres south of the port city of Mahajanga. Mangroves have an enormous capacity for absorbing carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, hence their critical importance for mitigating the effects of climate change.
